|A Storm In New Orleans
There was a storm in New Orleans,
That brought the rising tide.
It's been the ruin of many a family.
When God was not at their side.
A mother fled to Arkansas,
She took her whole savings.
The father was a stubborn man,
Stayed in New Orleans.
The waters came and filled their house,
It poured through the windows.
He climbed and climbed and reached the roof,
But was missed by state troopers.
Now the only things left standing there,
Are the churches and the trees.
And the only ones left helping out,
Crawl around on their hands and knees.
Well there was a storm in New Orleans,
That brought the rising tide.
And it's been the ruin of many a family.
When God was not at their side.

It chucked it down today as inoxia
and I were coming home from a day out to the London Museum. We got very cold and very wet. As soon as I got to the front door, the sun came out again. I took off my shirt and wrang it out, then I spotted that all my upstairs windows were open. I discovered that my bathroom and bedroom are also soaked through, and the situation was not helped by not having my main towel at the moment. :-/ Current Mood: wet

|As seen on Slashdot
HER BLOG:Monday, 6th June 2005
Saw him in the evening and he was acting really strangely. I went shopping in the afternoon with the girls and I did turn up a bit late so thought it might be that. The bar was really crowded and loud so I suggested we go somewhere quieter to talk. He was still very subdued and distracted so I suggested we go somewhere nice to eat. All through dinner he just didn't seem himself; he hardly laughed and didn't seem to be paying any attention to me or to what I was saying. I just knew that something was wrong. He dropped me back home and I wondered if he was going to come in; he hesitated but followed. I asked him again if there was something the matter but he just half shook his head and turned the television on. After about 10 minutes of Silence, I said I was going upstairs to bed. I put my arms around him and told him that I loved him deeply. He just gave a sigh and a sad sort of smile. He didn't follow me up but later he did, and I was surprised when we made love. He still seemed distant and a bit cold, and I started to think that he was going to leave me and that he had found someone else. I cried myself to sleep.

|Old Flames, Lost Friends
I was just having a dream about one of my schoolboy love interests, and woke wondering what has happened to her. Then I thought about others, and wondered too what has happened to them. I would love to meet up with them, see how their life has gone, share some anecdotes, etc. So if anyone reading this has any idea who, what or where these people are, please let me know!
(In chronological order)
Allana (aged 5)
This was a girl I spent some time with at Butlin's Holiday Camp in Skegness when I was about five years old (1986).
We met the same week in early May about three years in a row, and spent time chatting and dancing (awww). I don't know her surname, but she will be about 23 now.
Anna Yates (aged 6)
This girl lived next to my grandmother and was the first girl i sent a love letter to. We used to play together in her back garden. Her family moved to the south coast and I lost contact. She is now a doctor or nurse at Warrington hospital in Liverpool, though I don't have any contact information. I tried calling the hospital but they said they couldn't give out staff details nor could they passed on any message for me :-(
Veronica Grebecki (aged 10-11)
THe first girl I sent a valentine's card to, although I left it anonymous! Veronica was only in West Bridgford for a year before moving on again. I have no idea where she might be, but she is of Polish descent so she could have gone back to Poland.
Claire Thomas (aged 13-18, and lingering warm fuzziness)
Oh the pain of unrequited love! She moved to Nottingham from Newcastle and joined my form. We built up a good friendship but it took me two years before I told her I was interested. She laughed me off :-(
I watched her date all the guys in our year whom I held in the lowest regard. The weed smokers, the arrogent/dumb/lowlife types. It hurt but I tried to remain at least friends. After telling her of my true feelings though she spurned me, and we hardly spoke after, certainly not to the extent that we had done when our friendship was strongest.
In other news…
I have for the first time in my life found someone that is on the exact same wavelength as me (intellectual, spiritual, sexual, recreational, etc). And she's single! And cute! *bouncy bouncy bouncy* She seems to be interested in me too so I'm definitely going to pursue this.
Now I have to work out how I'm going to let down all my other women… Current Mood: curious

|Update on life.
What's been happening to poor old(er) Nicholas?
Well, had my 24th birthday a fortnight ago. I spent the day sat at home reverse engineering Tiger's Metadata.framework and writing a CMM plug-in to let you edit a file's Spotlight metadata. Later in the evening my mum called to wish me a happy birthday, which I appreciated.
I called the council about the tree in my garden which they told me 15 months ago they were going to remove (it has a preservation order on it, so I can't touch it). The sent someone around to take another look (alas not Claire the cute girl who came by last year, shame, but oh well). Earlier that day I had burnt my lunch (some garlic bread slices I was grilling) due to thinking the grill was set to 1 (of five) when in fact it was on 3. My grill will burn anything under there for more than four minutes if it's on a setting higher than 2, and I had put them in for five thinking it was set to 1!
Hmm, what else… Well, my garden went from 1ft to 4ft high in two weeks, then I cut half of the weeds back again and now it's only 2ft high :-)
I've been trying to improve my Hungarian in preparation for my trip to Hungary next week with my mum, siblings and grandmother. Sadly the only thing I could remember prior to this month was about 100 words, all nouns and adjectives (no verbs, conjunctions or other useful things like grammar), and the numbers 1-19. Well i think I have learnt the verb lenni
(to be, quite an important verb :-) and can now count to 999,999,999 (cardinals and ordinals) and say a bunch of stock phrases like Az mennyibe kerül?
(How much is that?), Kérlek, szeretnék egy üditőt.
(I'd like a drink, please) and the blatantly useful Bochánat, én nem beszélek sokat Magyarul
(Sorry, I don't speak much Hungarian).
I have also been overdosing on tea recently since I know it's supposed to be good for one's longevity (antioxidants and all that) so been drinking a couple of cups a day.
Odd thing happened yesterday. I had three different female friends brag to me about getting laid. Now this is not the sort of thing a chronically single guy likes to hear about too much! :-P Current Mood: energetic

|Y'know I don't do online tests, well…
|Need to dominate
|Peter pan complex
Stability results were high which suggests you are very relaxed, calm, secure, and optimistic.
Orderliness results were moderately low which suggests you are, at times, overly flexible, improvised, and fun seeking at the expense of reliability, work ethic, and long term accomplishment.
Extraversion results were low which suggests you are very reclusive, quiet, unassertive, and secretive.
Trait Snapshot: secretive, reclusive, messy, disorganized, introverted, unassertive, rarely worries, dislikes large parties, does not like to fit in, does not need to control others, solitary, ambivalent about chaos, tough, leisurely, does not respect authority, not aggressive, observer, abstract, impractical, dislikes leadership, daydreamer, bizarre, does not make friends easily, not a perfectionist, suspicious, rarely irritated, strong physical instincts, unsympathetic at times, risk taker, submissive, weird, sarcastic, strange
Well I disagree on the emphasis on disorganised, messy and disorderly. Yes I need to tidy up more often, but I'm not as bad as this would suggest! Also, what on earth is a 'peter pan complex' ? Does it mean I want to be played by a female lead in the theatre? Does it mean i want to fly? The rest though is pretty damn accurate.
Try it yourself and let me know. Current Mood: bored

Mon frère a acheté le film 'Amelie' sur DVD pour moi à Noël mais je viens de la voir le semaine dernier. C'est un film parfait! Ils n'ya pas d'autre mots pour le décrire. Voyez.
Wow, somebody just donated $30 to me to re-start work on my Diablo II editor 'Alkor'. I sent them a special edition with his name in it :)
How many Mac users still play Diablo II ?
How many of you would pay a small shareware fee for a character and item editor that could do mods too ? Current Mood: busy
